Do Kids Really Have 'Summer Learning Loss'?

Here's an interesting article I ran across today -

Time - Do Kids Really Have 'Summer Learning Loss'? Annie Murphy Paul

The author shares results of several studies and recommendations for students, parents, and families to continue to develop strong habits that make a positive influence on learning and development in children and learners.

Among the highlights of the studies and article is that children who have easy access to books read more and some students who read 4 or 5 books over the summer maintained reading level, ability, and performance on assessments in the following year.

Students who are given a choice of what to read will read more and students who read 12 books a summer gain or maintain their reading skills, abilities, and level as well as students who participate in summer school.

We wish all students a successful and enjoyable summer - particularly as our 4th of July Holiday is upon us and we will continue to encourage successful goals and habits - such as daily reading to become a more successful and productive individual.
